Types of Counseling and Therapy Offered

I use a mind/body approach. Some of the techniques and therapies specifically utilize the resources of the body by focusing on the body’s physical sensations, and physical responses to emotional feelings. Other techniques and therapies address the mind’s conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The following are examples of the types of therapies I use.

Solution-Focused Therapy

This therapy works by using the resources of the conscious mind to identify possible solutions to a difficulty or block. Then, by focusing on new possibilities, co-created by the therapist and client, the optimum solution is developed.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

Thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors shape and affect each person’s life. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy taps into the power of the conscious mind to allow the recognition, identification and modification of negative thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. Through this process the quality of feelings and the level of human functioning is greatly enhanced.

Body-Centered Therapy

Body-Centered Therapy can be helpful in identifying physical feelings and sensations that can be used as informative guides to resolving difficulties and blocks to personal progress.

Interactive Guided Imagery

Interactive Guided Imagery uses the resources of the unconscious mind. This approach uses images as keys to unlock a person’s deepest thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Through the use of imagery, a deeper understanding of one’s core identity can be developed. A picture truly is worth a thousand words especially when that picture is an image, which has been stored deep within the unconscious.


Hypnotherapy is another technique that allows the exploration of unconscious resources. Through this exploration and the use of positive suggestions, blocks to progress are overcome and goals can be achieved. I also help clients learn self-hypnosis.

Five Connections Therapy

Five Connections Therapy is a therapy I have developed that allows individuals to go beyond simply alleviating problems and into the realm of creating the best possible life. This therapy brings together both unconscious and conscious resources to discover core life connections. These essential life connections are then combined with a plan that allows for the development and utilization of unique abilities. This method can create a powerful path toward the fulfillment of life goals.


Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing has helped thousands overcome a wide variety of difficult and painful experiences. When a person feels “stuck,” in either a pattern of behavior or with a reoccurring painful memory, EMDR is a powerful tool. It works with both the mind and body to allow new connections to be made between the memory or pattern that has felt “stuck’ and other life experiences. These newfound connections generate insights that help to resolve the problem.


This is a relatively new therapeutic technique that has been developed out of the EMDR model. It has proven to be very effective in helping people to rapidly and successfully reprocess painful or “stuck” events.

Internal Family Systems Therapy

Internal Family Systems Therapy is an evidence based approach that allows individuals to embody the Self and heal injured parts in order to live more confidently and with greater curiosity and compassion.
